A Hundred Years of Grace in God's Country

ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH

Serving Lakeview, Paisley, Plush and Adel, Oregon

Welcome to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lakeview, Oregon — and to our mission churches of St. John in Paisley, St. Thomas in Plush, and St. Richard in Adel.

For over a century, this community has gathered at the same altar, received the same sacraments, and professed the same ancient faith handed down from the Apostles. We are Catholic — fully, joyfully, and without apology — and we are grateful you are here.

At the heart of everything we do is the Holy Eucharist: the real, true, and substantial presence of Jesus Christ. Around that altar, ranchers and families, longtime parishioners and newcomers, all kneel together as one Body.

Whether your family has worshipped here for generations, you have just arrived in Lake County, or you are encountering the Catholic faith for the first time — you are not a stranger here. St. Patrick's has been a home for the faithful in this high desert for more than a hundred years, and that door remains open.

Céad míle fáilte — a hundred thousand welcomes.

Welcome to St. Patrick Catholic Church

Our History

The history of St. Patrick Catholic Church is woven into the history of Lake County itself. Long before the present building stood, Catholic families working the ranches and homesteads of southern Oregon gathered in faith, celebrated the sacraments, and carried the Church with them into one of the most remote corners of the American West.

The present church in Lakeview was completed in 1911. On Christmas Eve of that year — the eve of the Nativity of Our Lord — Father Schmitt offered the first Mass within its walls. That detail is worth pausing on: the first act of worship in this building was the offering of the Holy Sacrifice on the night the Church prepares to celebrate God becoming flesh. It was an fitting beginning for a parish that has kept that same Mass, that same faith, and that same Lord at its center ever since.

The church itself was built through the hard work and generosity of parishioners and community supporters — ranching families and townspeople who understood that a Catholic community without a proper place of worship was incomplete. They built something meant to last, and it has.

That same spirit extended beyond Lakeview. The mission churches of St. John in Paisley, St. Thomas in Plush, and St. Richard in Adel each carry their own stories of Catholic families determined to worship together across the wide, spare landscapes of Lake County. Distance was never an obstacle to faith here — it was simply the condition under which faith was lived.

More than a century later, St. Patrick and its missions remain what they have always been: places where the Holy Eucharist is offered, where sins are forgiven, where children are baptized, where the dying are anointed, and where generation after generation encounters the living Christ — not as an idea, but as a Person.
